Can someone explain what the academic promotion process is like in the UK, or in Bistol specifically (for those of us in all the crookedtimber countries)? Is it cooperative or more of a nail-biter (like the recent thread comparing tenure in Italy and the US)? Will it change your daily duties - more or less teaching, or committees or something? Is there a ceremony, are there photos? Do you folks really wear robes or is that purely oxbrdge (non-wolfson oxbridge)? What did/will Chris do to celebrate?
