I’m a sociologist with primary interests in politics, culture and religion. And I’m, like John Quiggin, in Brisvegas.

Worked as a Lecturer in Public Policy and Industrial Relations, then in Sociology for 8 years. Now taking time out to finish my PhD.

Well, I can now think of at least one reason I might want to do a PhD – to get onto the Crooked Timber blogroll!

Otherwise, an abortive attempt at a PhD that took three years put me off the whole idea. And working in IT support in a university has given me firsthand experience of how academic life has become more stressful and less pleasant with increasing student loads and an anti-intellectual government.

But maybe I should see if I can get onto the blogroll as a “category three” exception.
