Okay okay, I actually heard that joke made about Connecticut, but it seemed to apply better to Ohio. What do I know out here in California.

What an insult to Lousiana. Not only is their food a hell of a lot better, but at least their crooks, like the aforementioned Mr.Edwards, have been colorful and entertaining. We, on the other hand, have Bob Taft, best described by Orwell’s famous phrase for Stanley Baldwin- “not even a stuffed shirt, but simply a hole in the air”.

Totally unfair on several counts. First off, at least Louisiana has New Orleans, Cajun food, and jazz, which make up for a lot of shortcomings.

Second, Louisiana has a long and glorious history of political corruption. I rather doubt the Midwest has yet birthed the crooked pol who could give Edwin Edwards a run for his money. The man openly taunted Federal investigators for years before they finally managed to put him away, and was still elected (legitimately!) 5 times if I recall correctly. And compared to the Longs, Edwards was a piker.
