Just to clarify, it wasn't that complicated, but I did have to keep pressing the same combination of buttons on the remote and inserting, taking out a DVD, then opening and closing the DVD tray before it
did the trick.

http://tinyurl.com/odmpc

cost $40 and a three-quarter hour converting it to a
region-free player with a remote hack discovered here...your one-stop shop for DVD remote hacks.

Now I just have to order those Clanger DVDs...oh, shit, I forgot. I don't have any kids.

I just posted this on the other thread, but a host of cheap Region 1 players have multiregion hacks of the "enter code X at stage Y" variety which can be readily found via Google.

Harry, Region Free DVD players are widely available and cheap. I've been watching the British Comedy "Look Around You," a region 2 PAL, with no problems on my NTSC plasma using a Phillips DVP642 DVD player, for example. You can get one from Amazon fo $60 (or other places, often cheaper). There are lots of other models to choose from.

The only catch is that when it arrives you have to use your remote to put in a magic code so that it goes into "debug mode" and ignores all region encodings. Happily, the codes for a wide variety players are posted all over the internet

You might like to check out the animated Moomins series, which was originally in Japanese but is translated into English and available from UK Amazon. There is also a puppet "Fuzzy Felt Moomins" series from the 80's, I have never seen it except the stills which I use as screensavers, but they are selling DVD's at <a href="http://users.tinyworld.co.uk/moomin_troll/" rel="nofollow">this web site</a>.
