The Fry Who Loved Me

I’m writing this post in part to recommend Charles Stross’s The Jennifer Morgue (publisher, Powells, Amazon, As Brad DeLong says, if you’re into Cthulhu mythos, operating system humour, spy novels and parodies of bureaucracy, this is the novel for you. But mostly, I’m writing it to perpetrate the pun in the title, which in addition to being atrocious is also almost certainly incomprehensible to anyone who hasn’t read the book already. But it could have been worse … [worser]Goldfingerling? Branzino Royale? Flounderball?[/worser] Much worse.

  5. I’ve been recommending it to people since I first read it.

    Back in March last year.

Charlie has a serious problem with “Halting State”, though – events in the real world have a bad habit of catching up with the goddamned novel.

  6. The book title’s a reference to Operation Jennifer.

And, dammit, Amazon just cancelled my order. Something to do with Orbit buying the UK rights. So now I have to wait a year for the Orbit paperback or go through the hassle of getting hold of a copy from the US. Aargh!

  7. ajay – see Stross here on this problem.
