Received wisdom is that it took a while to become what it is, presumably on account of the in-jokes. I remember many of the Rushton series from the early 90s, and worry that it&#039;s all just a little too meta these days. (Perhaps the whole point is that you know when the jokes are coming.) 

Best to enjoy it while they&#039;re all still with us, and taking the rise out of the insufferable Nigel Rees.</description>
