To nit-pick on Jacob’s linguistic nit-picking while “kaste første skoen” is valid Norwegian, so is “kaste den første skoen”. “kaste den første sko” on the other hand sounds like something from Ibsen, and while there is nothing wrong with that, I doubt it is something you would write or say today. [1]

Swedish is the same, both “kasta den första skon” and “kasta första skon” is good, while “kasta den första sko” would not work at all.

As for the difference between “kaste den første skoen” and “kaste første skoen” I would say the emphasis is slightly stronger in the first than in the second, but I cannot put into work exactly how. Note that there is no semantic difference what-so-ever.

[1] Large differences exist between Norwegian dialects so it is possible this does not hold for all of the country.

‘Shit’ does not need translating, and ‘av’ does not mean anything in this context. Possibly the text may be ‘shit au’, which would make ‘au’ a somwhat more established, but still very undefined modifier word. I would say it means something like ‘Bad Luck!’ or ‘Sorry’, but a better translation/interpretation may exist.

Linguistic nit-picking: “Skoen” is the definite version (=”the shoe”) in Danish and Norwegian, so that would be “kaste første skoen” or “kaste den første sko”. Swedish, on the other hand, uses a double definite article (“kasta den första skon”)

Btw, “to shoe oneself” (“att sko sig”) is the Swedish expression for looking after your own economic interests in an egoistic manner. Well…
