Of the two, I think I prefer the student effort to Culshaw—partly because all of Culshaw’s voices have just a bit too much Culshaw in them, and partly, like Peter S, because I think Mr Student Hair gets the rhetorical pitch just right.

The boy’s good, especially given Schama quasi-pornographic relationship with descriptive language and the common TV historians’ schilling about their particular ‘decisive turning points’ and such bumpf.

I do remember there was a skit where Schama and Starkey are doing their walk and talks seperately and bump into each other

I get the same response with Schama, so I would suggest he has it spot on.

I’d suggest you folks watch the Power of Art shows again—especially the Rothko episode. This guy’s got the blustery “the world changed irrevocably” rhetoric down cold, which makes it a better spoof, even with its spastic student-pokes-teacher attitude. “It’s what we expect, of course, but not what we anticipate, and therein lies its brilliance.”
