The Electronic Frontier Foundation started out as a noble, somewhat Jeffersonian affair. They understood the importance of a right to dissent, and they understood that dissent right includes not only the usual Abbie Hoffman wannabe, but, say the Anti-Abbie Hoffman wannabe (too often the left assumes only leftists have the right to dissent).

EFF continues to do some important work--such as the fight against the politicians who want to criminalize proxies (complete f-n J-Edgarish BS). At the same time, EFF seems to have lost their vision to some degree, and become another PC liberal site, rife with the usual PC liberal hypocrisy and kitsch. They've become more bureaucratic and corporate, now referring all issues to the staff attorneys; in the early days they might have referred to John Barlow or RU Sirius...

Given the proliferation of highly controlled and moderated sites--included the liberal biggies such as DailyKOS, DU, HuffPo, Salon, etc.--dissent and communication issues remain, like, motherfucking critical. When so-called liberals "troll-rate" and award virtual swastikas to dissenters (or turn them into the Feds) who object to say Obama's campaign fund, or defense budget, or Rick Warren, Rev Wright, Hillary, et al it's time for dissenters of all types to put their shoulders to the wheel.
