Rather a recommendation for a particular hotel I would recommend a hotel booking site, where search could be done using various criteria; location is shown on a map; user’s valuation; etc.

If you care for the Saint-Germain / Raspail area, round the block from the “Bon Marché”, 25 meters from metro Sevres-Babylone and “velib” stations, the Paris public bicycles system) , the best value for money I know of is the charming Hotel Lindbergh.

I lived in Paris for 50 years and live in Marseille now, but whenever I miss Paris, I go there, it is quiet, confortable, people are nice, location is excellent. High season price, if room available is around 100 €.

This from a friend who stays in the 13th:
The place where I stay is in the 13th – Hotel Manet, rue Edouard Manet, 2 minutes from Place d’Italie and lots of metro and bus lines. There’s a free computer, just one, in the lobby. I’m not sure about wifi, generally. There’s an internet place, not exactly a cafe, 2 minutes walk away, where machines are available at a certain rate. The Manet has a decent website that you could visit. They offer a buffet breakfast, at 7E 50, which offers not only the usual excellent bread, croissants but also cereals, yoghurts, cake, eggs to boil, etc.

Stayed in October . . . perfect location, a block from Notre Dame, wonderful shops and restaurants within a quick walk, Metro a few blocks away. The room was small but immaculately clean, the bathroom very Euro/modern. I’d go back in a heartbeat!

I’ve stayed at the Hotel Nicolo on Rue Nicolo, and the Regine de Passy on Rue de la Tour, each in the 16th just off Rue de Passy and near Place Cuba. The area has lots of street traffic but few tourists. The Nicolo is a clean, attractive, family business with art touches, while the Regine is more of a business hotel. Service in each is friendly and helpful. The Regine is pricy, but the Nicolo has good web deals. Each has easy access to Metro and to neighborhood shops.

I've stayed at the Passy Eiffel (16ème) when I was attending an OECD meeting. Small rooms, but neat, close to Metro and good bistros (and the Musée Marmottan). Note that their Internet rates are cheaper.

Similar to James above, I’d recommend http://www.paristolet.com/ (in the 16th) – we stayed here for a holiday a couple of years ago. Nice apartment, has wifi I think, it’s within your price range.

A few years ago we stayed at a place called La Manufacture. It’s in the 13th (a bit farther out from your area) and the rooms are tiny, but it was new, clean, stylish and relatively cheap. A quick google suggests it’s in the range of $170 these days. Don’t know about wifi.

You might look up Hotel Mayet (rue Mayet, 6ème). The rooms are somewhat small, but nice and clean. They have wifi (sometimes a bit slow) and there is a decent restaurant next door.

Thanks. I probably should’ve been more clear that $200/night was definitely my upper limit, including taxes. Some of these latter recommendations look great, but they’re out of my price range. (Hotels are notorious for a ridiculous number of taxes and so the “per night” rate doesn’t describe the full cost.)

Hôtel Rubens looks intriguing, but is rather far from the things I’ll have to be doing (the main event will be in the 16th and will require some amount of logistics, as in carrying a bunch of stuff). I know public transportation is good, but not ideal if your hands are completely full. But I’ll definitely store this info for future reference.

As to ParisStay, I looked at it, but I think I’d like a hotel this time. Nonetheless, could result in a neat experience given the right circumstances.

For the past 40 years, my father has stayed at the Hotel du Pas de Calais, in the 6th District, on his Paris visits. I think they currently charge something like 160 to 190 Euros a night. http://www.hotelpasdecalais.com/

A couple of years ago my wife and I stayed at the Hotel St Paul Rive Gauche, in Rue Monsieur le Prince near the Luxembourg Gardens (the 6th). It was a lovely, small, well-run hotel with a mix of American and European guests. They fit your price range and they say they have wifi (they didn’t when we were there but their website says they do now – http://www.hotelsaintpaulparis.com/).

Hôtel Rubens on Rue du Banqiuer is simple, nice enough, and just off Avenue des Gobelins (within short walking distance to Mouffetard, the Fifth, to several metro lines, as well as the best Boulanger in Paris (Monge):
