Sunday Photoblogging: Cruiseship

by Belle Waring on June 1, 2014

Boat headed away from Singapore, to the East. It’s gloomy in the tropics more often than you may think. 50,000-foot-high thunderheads piling up don’t leave much room for light.smship5x7

So not a dry heat then.

That’s really great. Did you use a filter/wash it out in Photoshop, or some such?

Never heard of the Hofman rubber duck before.

The reflected image of the ship on the windows to the right gives the illusion of being able to look through those windows to see the ship itself. I also like the intersecting horizontal and vertical lines, with the lone antenna tower giving off a nice axis mundi effect, an inversion of sorts of the truth revealed always by a plumb bob. Nice pic.

Wait, so is there an identical boat behind us?

js: Yeah I think I dialed back the saturation. godoggo: more of the tall buildings, rather.

It’s nice how the rigid rectilinearity of the ship in its reflection in the adjoining edifices goes slightly wavy. There’s also the barely discernible gaiety of its multicolored flags.

Nice. Is there a larger version? It would make a nice wallpaper…

Great composition and tonality. A tiny bit of barrel distortion? Could be edited out in software.

Yeah I think I dialed back the saturation.

Nice—it works super well. And as other commenters point out, the hints of color in the flags against the generally monochromatic feel are great, and it would be great to see a bigger version too.

Here’s the duck in Kahiung.

This is relevant because only one of the pictures shows the actual color of the sky there (hint: not blue).
