I’m sure all the Cool Kids have heard this already, but I only just found out about Skeewiff’s remix of the Soggy Bottom Boys’ Man of Constant Sorrow. That’s a 7.3MB download, but it’s well worth it. It is, at the very least, the best freely available song I’ve heard in a long time. And electronic remixes of bluegrass songs seems like such an obvious idea, I’m surprised it hasn’t been done before. (Or, perhaps more to the point, I’m surprised it hasn’t been brought to my attention before.)

if only someone would remix Amedee Breaux’s droning 1929 masterpiece “Ma Blonde Est Partie,” available copyright-free from archive.org, for the chillout room. you’d have yourself a great the-future-was-then release.

That was fun. But I think I like the Bad Livers’ bluegrass cover of “Lust for Life” better. (Turnabout being fair play, and all.)

Or Uncle Tupelo’s version of “I Wanna Be Your Dog.”

At least they didn’t attempt this with Ralph Stanley.

I’ve seen similar raves elsewhere for this … mediocre rendition.

degustibus,

Before hearing it, I thought you were being way too harsh. But after giving it a spin, you’re right. I was expecting some chopped up goodness a la Danger Mouse. Alas, it’s a cheezy pseudoFatboy Slim affair.
