Heimat 2 to be released on DVD

Posted by Chris

Regular CT readers will know that I’m a big fan of Edgar Reitz’s Heimat and that I was thrilled when it was released on DVD in the UK. The Heimat news page now announces that Heimat 2 (the sequel) will be out in May in the UK (and slightly earlier in parts of Europe). Fantastic!

Sorry to comment on something unrelated, but I’m trying to get a dialogue going between the religious and non-religious since this largely parallels the gap between Left and Right in this country- if anyone is interested please check out:

Heimat 2 is excellent (well it peters out a bit at the end, but most of it is excellent). The connection to Heimat 1 is very tenuous though.

No, it doesn’t. Not even the other way around, either.

I haven’t seen the original since I was a teenager, probably 20 years ago (I’m not even sure if I saw them all then, though I tried), but the memory of it has stayed with me as one of the best things in any form—whether film, literature, art or anything—that I’ve come across, up until then or since. Your post has prompted me finally to fork out for the 6 DVD set of Heimat 1—since if the second one comes out in May and the third might be shown on BBC 4 some time this year, it would be awful to catch them out sequence. Thanks.
