Goethe Institute on Wagner

Posted by Chris

The Goethe Institute has a really nice animated site on Wagner’s Der Ring des Nibelungen. It is aimed at children, but it should appeal to anyone with an interest in the Ring. (English and German). There’s also much more on the Institute’s various web-projects on this page .

Not sure why they’re so keen to emphasize the work’s extraordinary length….

Can some one recommend some German language blogs? I’m especially interested in those which discuss Bayern and German politics.

Maybe I didn’t navigate to the right portion of the site and missed it, but any multimedia presentation on Wagner which doesn’t have a section on the concept of “Leitmotif” with audio clip examples is seriously deficient.

Drew,

you might wish to use the non-anglophone section of afoe’s blogroll as a jumping-off point.

Thanks, Chris. It’s good to be reminded that not everyone on this blog thinks “culture” means science fiction and rock ‘n roll. Not that there’s anything weong with them.

not that it’s a big deal, but most of the AFOE links are to English-language blogs by Germans. If you’re after German-language blogs, a few I like are:
le sofa blog
jens scholz
dekaf
schockwellenreiter
siebenviertel (lives in LA)
worldwideklein

Thomas, true, afoe itself is anglophone, as are most of the things we link too. But if you scroll down the blogroll far enough, you will, I promise you, find that we spare a thought for the differently-verbal. In particular, you’ll find the following deutschophones:

Ostblog
Plastic Thinking
Roxomatic
Sauseschritt
Lyssas Lounge

And may I add that I hope we may have the opportunity to lengthen the list in the near future.

I stand corrected, thank you.
