Via Patrick Nielsen Hayden, a cool index of photographs of cities. Of the cities in the index, I’ve lived in Cork, Tucson and Canberra, in that order. I imagine our cosmopolitan CT crowd can do better than that.
The database isn’t without its errors: this claims to be Cork but is in fact Cobh, a town down the road that was the Titanic’s last port of call.
Not much more cosmopolitan here (links only for index):
Santa Rosa, NM
Calling next at: London.
I’m not exactly cosmopolitan, but the database includes all five of my Australian homes (Adelaide, Canberra, Sydney, Townsville, Brisbane) and Washington DC, for a total of six.
shit, I miss California. Hm, in my life: Savannah, GA; Bluffton, S.C.; Columbia, S.C., Georgetown/Pawley’s Island, S.C.; Washington, D.C., New York, N.Y., San Francisco, CA; Oakland, CA; Berkeley, CA; Singapore…
For some reason, 4 of the pictures of Melbourne feature the Grollo Tower, which not only does not exist, but was never even likely to.
Fairly cosmopolitan. I’ve lived in Maputo, Bangkok, Oxford, Lyon, London, New York and Sydney.
If we are only counting cities (rather than semi-rural crapholes in Central Scotland) then I’ve lived in:
Glasgow
Oxford
Prague [sort of - spent several months a year there for a few years]
No pictues of Prague in the database but http://www.praguewebcam.com/praguewebcam/ is nice….
I claim the title of Least Cosmopolitan Crooked Timber reader, since a google image search of my home town leads only to this.
Manhattan; Bangor, Maine; Baldwin, NY (unincorporated area on Long Island; home of Joey Buttafuoco’s auto body shop AND Amy Fisher’s escort service); New Haven, CT; Boston/Cambridge/Somerville.
I dare you all who haven’t actually been there (or sigh, were there on one of our 363 yearly badly overcast days) to check out the pictures of Pittsburgh.
I guarentee you will be stunned.
And then remember our Republican surburbanites not only have no idea why anybody would want to go “dahntahn” but actually want it to die, die, die. At least after they suction off enough money (state, federal) from the urban cores to build all the shopping malls of their dreams.
Thanks for blogging me and visiting the site! I’ve corrected the erroneous Cork/Cobh image on the new server (see main page) and am in the midst of a massive upload of more photos right now. Croatia, Cuba, Czech. (Prague) is now restored. Re: Grollo Tower in Melbourne, it was cool and was big news on the skyscraper pages of the day. Many old junk photos will be deleted as I find time to do it.
Cheers!
