I Am Become Matthew Yglesias, Destroyer of Worlds

Posted by Belle Waring

He is no longer merely “Big Media Matt”. He is become Giant Media Matt. Mentioned by name in a Krugman column, thank you very much. Who would have thought that mere editorship at the Harvard Crimson Independent would take a young man so far…Advantage: blogosphere. Sort of. Well, OK, advantage traditional old boys network. Still, Matthew kicks ass.

Lately Krugman seems to be on a one man crusade to push the media-critical blogosphere. More power to him.

I seem to recall he was an editor at the Independent, not the Crimson.

OK, you’re prolly right, there, Mr. Jo’n. I didn’t do no research or nothing. This is the blogosphere, man!

Posted by belle · August 6, 2004 02:18 PM

Yeah Jo’n’s got this right. No prestigious Crimson for me — just the lowly Independent. Interestingly, up at the Democratic Convention I ran into my counterpart from the Crimson at the DCCC “blogger bash” where he had the job of equipping VIP bloggers such as myself with green bracelets entitling us to free booze.

What power has the lowly blogosphere compared to the Empowerer to Free Booze?

Posted by Barry · August 6, 2004 03:59 PM

Can I have one of those green bracelets?

My cup overfloweth with joy!

I wonder if Krugman got into reading blogs, ironically, via Luskin.

Just a thought.

Matt is way cool (and I write this as an adult) and when ever I get mad at him, its usually because he says stuff I wish I woulda said first!

Ah, but Spencer Ackerman, 2002 alumnus of Rutgers University’s Daily Targum, was mentioned by Krugman more than a year ago. Take that, Ivy League.

Ten years from now, Matt Yglesias will recall his writings of today and will blush for his command of English.

Twenty years from now, Matt Yglesias will recall his writings of today and blush for his naivete.

(I mean these things as high praise: mind you take them so.)
