I’ve spent many hours in Newport (waiting for trains…), but can’t quite figure out where this is. Is it near the bridge over the Usk? Great picture, Chris.

Can you climb up and walk across? (This is the kind of philistine tourist I am: I always want to climb to the top and look out. It never occurs to me to admire the geometry of structures, let alone photograph them so beautifully as this.)

Well, I have discovered an answer to my own question: yes, one can, though there is a charge. This being the 21st century, the bridge has a registered charity, a Wikipedia article and a couple of videos on YouTube. Also a rival for honors and hyperbole in the Tees Transporter Bridge.

I did climb up the Tees transporter bridge and abseil off it fundraising for the British red Cross many years ago, it is one of my favourite bridges.

@maria I’m not sure exactly where it is, I just followed the signs.

@bruce It was closed when I visited so I didn’t. I’ve been across the one in Bilbao though.
