In economics in 2 lessons top marginal tax rates over 60% are discussed. I don’t believe I would change my work hours if marginal taxes rose, so anecdotally the analysis is plausible.

Paul Keating describes high rates (50%) as “too punitive” (https://www.afr.com/politics/paul-keating-slams-labors-tax-gouge-20170512-gw35pr). What makes a tax rate too punitive?

How does this relate to income tests on social security, which are also often at 50%? Do these discourage participation and block paths out of poverty. Is this concern unfounded? I have seen no data. If participation is one of the P’s that create growth surely this matters, but my googling just got other things (ATO income tests levels, and information on the idea of participation income).

I just read Harry’s post on Diana Ross, etc., but was disappointed that the comments were closed, because in addition to the descending chromatic chord sequence that we see in “All I need to get by” and the Kevin Coyne, what struck me was the similarity of the melody in the second part of the verse starting with “I will never let go of the feeling …” at 0:29 to that of Stevie Wonder’s “Sir Duke” in the opening verse, at 0:19 in the attached video.

(Stevie puts his chromatic sequence after the verse.)

If I stopped using tricks such as maxing out superannuation contributions, in a good year I could hit the maximum income tax bracket. I’m pretty comfortable. I rent 30 square meters in an Australian capital and own a 17 year old car, but I do think the people with several houses and several sports cars could chip in a little more. Taxation seems geared towards letting the very rich off easy. Especially if they are bringing in a few hundred thousand a year in capital gains.

We REALLY have to solve this… this problem – with all these guys out there who not only in the US and the UK have become more and more ‘racist’.

As I really don’t want to step out of the house anymore and hear some drunken Idiot yell:
‘Die Juden sind schuld an Covid’
or when we go out for dinner – getting asked:
‘Was macht dieser Bimbo bei euch’

So – are there finally some helpful answer from this… this ‘esteemed forum’?

@nastywoman, ‘Die Juden sind schuld an Covid’

Reminds me of an old joke.
— Shlomo, do you know who Mao Zedong was?
— You don’t say, Abram! Was he, really?!!

Not economics, not physics, not philosophy. Anyone have thoughts on this? Dr. Arnold?

What we experience as time is the universe expanding
a. The arrow of time = everything is moving away from us
b. Entropy = Everything is moving apart
The difference between subject and object is time.
a. The arrow of time = subjective perception
b. Entropy = objective perception

Nastywoman @4 “So – are there finally some helpful answer from this… this ‘esteemed forum’?”

Realistic but not really helpful…
1) Wait 40yrs for zeitgeist to change neo-n****’s, hopefully,
2) move
3) don’t ask ddgo or the esteemed google for help

Re 2, proof the zeitgeist does change – in time;

“Bimbo – Jim Reeves”

Teach them to bake. Sounds about as good an idea as re-education or esteemed intellegences as a shield or change agent.

Esteemed intelligence oroto reply.

Wandering strassen late one night near too many Gaststätten.

Gurke yells at Nastywoman & friends:
“What is this bimbo doing with you”

(Esteemed intelligence nastywoman replies)
EI-NW: Well Gurke “The term was originally used in the United States as early as 1919 for an unintelligent or brutish man.[2]”

EI-NW: Yet due to embedded power, fake news & culture wars “Bimbo is a slang term for a conventionally attractive, sexualized, naive, and unintelligent woman,[1] especially one of Latino descent.”

Gurke replies: ” The Jews are to blame for Covid”.

To which EI-NW replies:
“Das ist das Leben, das ist der Krieg, das ist die Kartoffel, Gurke”

Dublin City Council have voted a trial of a four-day working week for staff:

https://www.thejournal.ie/dublin-city-council-four-day-work-week-pilot-5486775-Jul2021/

Interestingly, such a move was strongly opposed by the biggest trade union branch within that organisation (heavy with the rearguardista Labour Party people) at conference a few years back.

Nastywoman, in answer to your q’s @72 on “not crt” thread;

“So, what is it that caused thousands of people to assault this building and try to overturn the Constitution of the United States of America? What caused that? I want to find that out.”
Can you tell US – KT2?
PLEASE?!”

No pressure then. Short answer dodge – I too was awaiting an answer from an esteemed intelligence. And I posted a US general asking the same question. That is a problem – a general and West Point are still asking.

So to ask a specific q related to the General who wants to know, as you, and I also ask “what is it that caused thousands of people to assault this building and try to overturn the Constitution of the United States of America?” A worthy question yet it needs another question. the initial conditions and dynamics.

Another question may be;.
1a) “why are those in charge of the military in the US seemingly unable to know the initial conditions and what caused insurectionists tried it on at the Capitol, and
b) why they need more information, tools and knowledge to know their own people”.

I too await esteemed intelligence to answer those questions. In the meantime I try to be nice.

Maybe each them to bake? Sounds about as good an idea as re-education or esteemed intellegences as a shield or change agent.

Esteemed intellegences made a play as a shield & change agent for in street abuse. The gherkins haven’t seen it. That is why baking bread may be a better way to allow a space for gherkins to change beliefs.

I understand my poor writing skill (relative to esteemed intellegence) and flippant remarks may be taken as derisive.  They are not meant to be. On the “not crt” thread serveral comments were beyond the pale imo. I could not not use my esteemed intelligence to further inform them. Others tried. So baking and breaking bread over a story by a fire, being nice and open in a dialogue, not debate or discussion, may achieve belief change quicker than esteemed intelligence.

The esteemed intelligence which made the wiki page on Bimbo I fear, won’t communicate to them why they yell insults at you in the street, nor why the Capitol was stormed.

My teenager has just discovered people yell vile insults at certain people in weird places. If you or any esteemed intelligence here may enlighten me as to why it still is that way in the 21c, and what to do about it, I am all ears. Back to baking. And nice-ing
