Congratulations Matt McIrvin, you are the author of Crooked Timber’s Two Hundred and Fifty Thousandth Comment! And I’m not even counting all the spam we deleted. I believe the term of art these days is that these quarter of a million comments — do you mind if I say that again? These quarter of a million comments — are “curated”. Gently managed. Lovingly tended. Hosed down twice a day. It’s kind of like you are all in a big museum, or possibly zoo. Of the future. We’ve come a long way from the very beginning. Eventually there will be a grad student and a thesis, I am sure. In the meantime, for his good fortune Matt wins, em, well anyway we thank you sincerely for your many contributions. And of course we thank you, as well. And you. And especially you. But certainly not you, you troll. You are banned.

This post really should have been in the form of a blinking banner ad.

So is the comment above the 250,000th comment, or did you miss the chance to make it a self-referential post and comment?

Congratulations Matt and CT. My only regret is that Kieran felt it necessary to ban me.

Kind of shocking the number is so low. I’m going to have to step up the pace.

I think I’m fifth, which means I’m banned. Unless I miscounted the ‘yous’, in which case, #6, tough luck…

We all kinda owe Matt some kind of debt for helping make sure it wasn’t Myles’ trolling that slipped into the coveted 250,000 slot. (It was achingly close.) Like, can we all chip in to arrange for him a free subscription to this blog?

Sounds a lot like the treatment accorded Kobe beef, doesn’t it?

I was going to say, even given the relatively pretty high quality of comments around here, you hit an awfully good one for number 250,000. Not only a good, sensible comment, but one trying to publicize a bit of knowledge that ought to be more widely known, and thus one that deserves the extra attention it is now getting.

Also, I first read this as saying that Matt McIrvin had created CT’s 250,000th commandment. And I was really having a hard time figuring out what you meant.

And, let’s be honest, Kieran lifts far more than his fair share of weight in trolls.
Clap on the back to you, K, for the immense amounts of shovelling required to keep this coalmine producing, er… diamonds.

Thou shalt not misconstrue party registration as a mandatory violation of the secret ballot!!
In retrospect, I wish I had mentioned the case of open-primary states, as bianca steele added further down. Also caucuses. American political mechanisms are strange and complex. Also the comment was sort of off-topic, albeit not as off-topic as most of what was going on in that thread.

What? 250,011 comments and nobody has pointed out that even thinking in terms of numbers like this smacks of the tyrannical healthcare planning we’ll see in Crooked Timber’s Islamo-fascist enviro-utopia?

I saw the title, and I thought it was about the tax thresholds in the health reform bill. Silly me.

To get banned in the week I could not comment because of travel is cruel ;-(

It will put the comment in the box or else it gets the hose again.
