It has to be said that the bridge itself is strange. The walkway is implausibly substantial, apparently tiled, flanked by sturdy wrought iron railings, far too heavy for what appears to be a hastily improvised and somewhat warped wooden superstructure.
Extensive graffiti suggests that the supports are actually painted steel, which would imply that the structure was actually engineered, and on reconsideration a slight degree of elegance can be discerned. [But, seriously, 1883?]
