Its been a busy couple of weeks — we were on vacation sort of, and then catching up. It is wonderful to me that Wisconsin 2011 I learned of Sarah-Jane’s death from a bunch of 14 year olds I’d just made a really good dinner for. But I’d rather it weren’t true. Barry Letts, the Brig, and now Sarah Jane, its been a tough couple of years.
Grauniad obit here.

Mitch Benn’s “Be My Doctor Who Girl”, which Sladen and her daughter were apparently fond of.

Thanks for that Harry, I’ve been waiting. I found this tribute moving: K-9

That’s sad. She was the first companion really remember from old reruns when I was a little kid. She really didn’t look 63 at all, or even sick. At least she went out a success.

This is really sad news. My 7-year old is a big fan of the Sarah Jane Mysteries, a Dr Who spin-off that is a bit more accessible to the younger viewer. And she is the first of the Doctor’s companions that I have any memory of as a child.

if you watch the current incarnation of the good doctor, you would have seen a short but poignant end title card dedicating the first episode of this new season to the memory of elisabeth sladen. very classy indeed, i thought.
i don’t know it for a fact, but i’m guessing sarah jane traveled and/or met more incarnations of the doctor than any other companion.
