The Simpsons

by Kieran Healy on March 4, 2006

The opening sequence of _The Simpsons_, only “with real people”:http://youtube.com/watch?v=49IDp76kjPw. (English people, apparently.) Clever. Is it an amateur effort, or some marketing thing? Pretty damn impressive, if the former. A third, highly likely option is that it’s something that’s been floating around for a year or five which I only now have discovered.

Apparently it was commissioned by Britain’s Sky One:

The music teacher has an incredible resemblance to the cartoon, but no one else is even close. Marge’s short dark hair was especially disappointing.

“The opening sequence of The Simpsons, only with real people.”

So. No verbs. An English thing?

They should have used this version of the theme:

(Sorry–couldn’t get the link to show up….)

I can only assume that raw data is a fifth grader who has a crush on the posters at CT and can only work up the nerve to make fatuous and mocking comments in order to get their attention. Hopefully soon you’ll get people you don’t know very well writing things like, “I know someone who likes you” and you’ll know RD has progressed to the next stage of emotional development.

So, this is an improvement on the original? Or is it just the first in a series of moves toward an all-too-human version of the show? If the latter, can we anticipate – within the next twenty years – one of the lead actors taking up residence in the White House?

I’m still laughing after 6 viewings.

This is great! They got the clothing right for all the characters, even the minor ones.

Trying to find Homer and Marge lookalikes would have been difficult, #2. I liked the replica of Lisa’s red dress.

5: Raw data’s comment, according to me: clever.

The Sky version is being e-mailed around with a compare-and-contrast, the season one opening.

Irish, however, not English. An important distinction.

I like the fact that Marge and Maggie are sitting on the wrong sides of the car.

“Irish, however, not English.”

Righty-O! Old chop!

What’s the difference?

So that’s where Springfield is!

“I like the fact that Marge and Maggie are sitting on the wrong sides of the car.”

For some reason, “Homer”‘s car was American-style (steering wheel on the left) and “Marge”‘s was British/Irish (wheel on the right)

‘Old chop’? Sheesh. Don’t try to pretend to speak like the English if you’ve never met anyone from further East than Chicago.

Irish, English. Same damn thing. Get over it you fucking limey bastard.

Why would you compare and contrast with the Season 1 opening? The live-action version uses the later opening as its base.
