I see this almost every year here (I confess I may have made the Iroquois comment one year way back, or at least thought it), and you’ll be happy to know that I’ve progressed to the point where I now think “wait – is this the cricket thing or the rugby thing?”.
I usually ignore the other big event this weekend, but I do know that pitchers and catchers start reporting in about a week.
Every year when I see this thread, I think it’s going to be about lacrosse — the only sport in which the Iroquois nation actually has a team, or certainly the best known. You pointy headed Old Europe intellectuals should stop confusing me that way. It’s not civil.
Welsh friends are already dismissing England’s chances, which is a good sign. Dave Attwood, who may well come off the bench for England, is a graduate of Bristol’s Philosophy and Physics programme.
Well, on the evidence of today England are showing some promise, so should actually be able to give us a game this year, and it’s good to see France back.
Actually, js @ 8 raises an interesting point. The dead silence from northern hemisphere CTers over recent results in you-know-what, in favour of fervid discussion over a rugby tournament from which the best three teams in the world are absent****, tells us all we need to know.

For once the weather conditions could be worse at the American big game than its 6 nations counterparts.

I knew about the Iroquois Confederacy for decades, only by reading Crooked Timber did I learn that other, more recondite meaning of the phrase.

The whole point of the 6 nations tournament is to exclude the best side. So, 7 nations? Go Springboks!

Why Italy?

Italy were magnificent last year, beating both France and Ireland.

Ah. Before I started following CT unfortunately.
(Weather in NY/NJ is predicted to be not that bad this Sunday, by the way—at least given time of year, etc.)

Let’s see some ad buy numbers for this big game versus XLVIII!
Eh, I prefer the Iroquois Confederacy (the real one) over all of ’em. (I really can’t even be bothered to try to watch the Bowl ads…egh.)

Must be referring to Newcastle 0 Sunderland 3 I presume?
The entertaining variety of Rugby hasn’t started its season yet.
