A metaphor for…. I recently learned that my English forebears in New England came not from the north of England (as I had been led to think — my family had no interest in such matters and was vague on them, but that was the lore) but from Devon (as did so many to New England in the 16o0’s). It’s the seascape, isn’t it? Whether Liverpool, Genoa, Charlestown, Barbados, Halifax, NYC, and so on around the world? Some lake photos needed, those curious inland waterscapes.

I was just wondering. Are all English cities metaphors? Liverpool a metaphor for….Manchester a metaphor for….
