Those vaulting ribs are impossibly beautiful, but very, very fragile. They were never designed to stand exposed that way. Without the rest of the original roof to give them rigidity, they may not last the decade. And allowing vines to add asymmetrical weight and wind-drag is asking for a collapse.
I hope the owners are consulting with first-class engineers and preservationists. That structure is too precious to leave unmaintained.
Thanks for the photo — it’s like something from a wonderful dream.
Thanks, Chris.
In that case, I may be dead wrong in my estimate of the structure’s stability. Or, it may be an accident waiting to happen. Again, I hope they are consulting with preservationists.
What a charming picture. The French Revolution did to the monasteries of France what Reformation & Henry VIII did to the monasteries of the British Isles, but they did leave some lovely ruins behind.
I am going to leave this here since comments have closed on the early blog on Mr. Zywicki lawsuit against mandatory vaccinations required by his employer, George Mason University and the Commonwealth of Virginia. I am a lawyer, although as the past year & as Mr. Zywicki & his own lawyers reveal about themselves, that does not mean much these days once the right-wing propaganda rots the mind. Justice Barrett has just dismissed a nearly identical lawsuit brought against Indiana University by libertarian/RW students to enjoin the mandatory vaccination requirement. https://uproxx.com/viral/amy-coney-barrett-struck-down-anti-vax-lawsuit-reaction/
“… She acted on her own, without referring the application to the full court, and she did not ask the university for a response. Both of those moves were indications that the application was not on solid legal footing…”
I do find that Corey Robin’s view of our RW brothers & sisters a good explanation for their hysteria as the old racial, religious, and sexual hierarchies disintegrate around them.

Looks like a good place to shoot a scene from a fantasy movie.

The structure naturally lends itself to a super wide-angle treatment. I continue to be envious of your travels to such lovely spots.

@oldster, I think it may have been like that for at least the past 180 years!

“France being ours, we’ll bend it to our awe
Or break it all to pieces.”
Or at least take great photos of some of those pieces!
