Awww… :-)

But can we really be sure that there isn’t an alphabet somewhere out there which includes the sign cookie monster?

I always liked that one.

But then I really love this one:

What Bubba should have said: “I’ve got that beat.”

That might just be the best title of any Crooked Timber post ever.

Did Kermit undergo a background check before being allowed within 10 metres of a child? He seems awfully … fey.

Not that that’s a bad thing, mind, but one can never, ever be too careful with children at risk.

I am proud to have my IP logged as having watched that YouTube clip. In fact, I insist on it.

I’ve heard that C. Monster is eating things other than cookies these days (including vegetables). I take this a repudiation of all that I have held sacred and have yet to recover.

@8 — But as far back as the, er, when-I-was-a-kid, Cookie Monster was rapping about the benefits of healthy food. Plus he’s eaten tables, plates, chairs, notes from Susan and Gordon … Cookies may be his specialty, but the monster has always been an omnivore.

Oh, sure, tables, chairs, etc. (pica sufferer?), but I don’t recall any other foodstuffs when I was a regular viewer . . . some time ago (nobody was rapping in the singing sense in those days).

I perforce watched Sesame St as an adult – but my favorite Cookie Monster moment was the time he was confronted with both an ocarina and (IIRC) a pickle, which kind of resembled each other. CM instantly gobbled up the ocarina. Elmo expressed astonishment: “Wouldn’t you rather eat the pickle?”

“A pickle is not to eat!” remonstrated Cookie, “A pickle is for making Byootiful Music!”, which he proceeded to do.

Loss of Jim Henson=Diminution of Human Culture.
