My eyes! The goggles do nothing!

by Kieran Healy on February 10, 2005

Here’s a picture of a small part of Milford Sound, on New Zealand’s beautiful South Island. I took it when I was there about a year and a half ago. It was my laptop wallpaper for a while. All this is really apropos of nothing, but I can’t look at that “tentacle mole”:https://www.crookedtimber.org/archives/003223.html any more. I know I’m not the only one who feels this way.

Aw. I miss the mole.

Kieran —
thank you.

How long have you had sexuality issues?

I can work with you, but first you must want to be helped.

Usually you need a specialist to have a mole removed.

I’m an avid gardener and pray I never to see such a monstrocity as that mole. Thank you for the courtesy of putting up such a beautiful scenery.

My eye! I’m not supposed to get tentacles in it!

There is no mention of scale. It is actually forty feet long.

And that picture of Milford Sound is really the bath in that room with a peculiar landlord.

I was fortunate enough to get to hike the Milford Track several years ago. It’s hard to imagine any place more beautiful.

Thank you Kieran and John Emerson (my sex joke wasn’t going to be as funny as that).

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

(Three times, for the charm.)

Apropos schmopos, when is a picture like that not appropriate? Thanks for the breath of fresh air.

And John Emerson’s comment was hilarious.

Misty. Windy. Snowy. Mountainous.

Still, the waterfall gleams like a zipper between two spread legs.

You know, I’m not trying to be Gother Than Thou or anything, but I thought the mole was cute. I’m surprised so many people find it disturbing.

Middle Earth . . . look closely and you’ll see some hobbits over by that waterfall . . .

The West Coast is beautiful and awe-inspiring. One of my favourite images is this poster, which my mother still has in her study, I believe:

Storm, Milford Sound

The sheer power of that wind is amazing. You’d probably be using other adjectives if you were out in it, mind you :)

And John Emerson thinks I have problems.

I don’t suppose you have that in 1280×1024, do you?

20

Kieran 02.10.05 at 2:35 pm

Sure, here it is at 1600×1200. And here’s another, maybe slightly better shot.

Rob Cottingham’s comment is the one that made my teetch itch….bad evil naughty puns! :-)

Appreciated. :)

I think you guys must be imagining things. It doesn’t look anything like that.

Where is the quote “My eyes! The goggles do nothing” come from?

“Storm, Milford Sound” is a common poster – deservedly so IMO. Images of Milford Sound have been used to encourage people to come here for nearly 2 centuries. I really shouldn’t wait another 20 years for my next visit!

Well, at least I know now what kind of men that gave the Tetons their name.

I’m with emerson and bad jim here; maybe it’s the fact that I am (thanks for the information, NHS) partially blind, but if you imagine the two mountains as knees, the waterfall is positively obscene. There is even a black dot at the top of the stream which apparently corresponds to some female organ or other (again, thanks for the information, NHS).

Based on emerson, jim and D2, this photograph could clearly be incorporated into a psychological battery of tests, the goal of which would be to answer the question “Have you looked at too much Porn on the internet?” Actually, it looks like it could pretty much be the only question on the test.

-the men that gave the Tetons their name-

Probably the same ones that triple posted me, right all you Arab women?

Poor dsquared, yes I would say that this would make a good test question for you- your answer means that you desperately need to look at the real thing just to refresh your memory.
