English migrants to Australia brought with them most of their bird names and applied them to unrelated species here (magpies, curlews, robins etc), or else brought the actual birds which mostly became pests (blackbirds, sparrows, starlings).
But no jackdaws. Their collecting habits are a moderately familiar figure of speech here, so it is perhaps surprising that the bower bird did not get this label.
