Half a year ago, I invited CT readers to join me in a photo project: a photo a week on a preset theme. Dozens of people were involved at first with about twenty still active half a year later. As with related photo projects, in addition to the photo experiences, the social component has been rewarding as well.
Up front I made a decision that all themes would be adjectives and I’d go through the alphabet, which conveniently maps on to a 52-week calendar if we cycle through it twice. Bubbly, endless, obsolete, twisted and xylographic are some of the themes we’ve tackled over the past six months. It’s been eye-opening to see people’s different interpretations of the themes. It’s been fun to be reminded of the different environments in which people live (we have participants from several countries), what they tend to encounter in their daily lives, what inspires them, what poses more or less of a challenge. As an aside, it’s also led me to improve my vocabulary.
We’ve been using tags so it’s easy to access the photos of any particular theme all at once provided people tagged their photos. Just click on the links below to see how the themes inspired us. We’re flexible, if you’d like to join us now, it’s not too late. We’re working on the theme “assorted” this week.

It really has been interesting to see how people approach each theme and I also agree that it’s a neat way of looking into other people’s worlds.

Ha, I took “yummy” but accidentally forgot to post it. Will rectify.

It has been fun – and challenging – so far.

Another happy participant here. Thanks to Eszter for coordinating it and thinking up all these fun adjectives!

On vocab – I had no idea what “xylographic” meant.

John Q – exactly! There are not a lot of adjectives starting with x so I had to do a bit of research to figure out that one. Some others led me down some interesting paths as well since I don’t simply need an adjective, I need one that makes sense for photos and also one that doesn’t replicate a previous theme too much. Plus I’ve avoided obvious things like colors (not that a color would have necessarily helped with x).
Chris, it’s been pretty flexible as you probably know, feel free to add now.
Thanks to all the participants for a fun photo project!

I stumbled across the project in December while looking for something to replace my annual p365 failure. I liked the idea of one photo a week and especially have enjoyed trying to come up with something to fit the theme. Every Sunday night/Monday morning my daughter has asked me what the theme is for the week and has been a great help in finding me things to photograph. Thanks for coming up with all the themes Eszter and I look forward to going through the alphabet again.
