Here I am in Brisbane airport, though at the moment the chance of sunburn is low (it’s raining) and only 50 percent of our luggage seems to have decided to come along with us. The fact that there was a giant roulette wheel on top of the luggage carousel (advertising the local casinos, I think) did not augur well. We’re en route to Canberra, where we’ll be at the “RSSS”:http://rsss.anu.edu.au/ for a couple of months. Despite the “social sciences” contained in that acronym, it looks as though I’ll be “surrounded by ontologists”:http://philrsss.anu.edu.au/ the whole time.

Don’t worry – your luggage will be returned when they’ve finished removing all the marijuana.

Missed you by a few hours. I’ll be out at the airport later today.

I hadn’t realised Brisbane was on the way to Canberra. I’d always changed planes in Sydney. It seems I leave home for a few months and they change everything around on me.

I was going to warn you about the Brisvegas yeti- a strange bearded creature whose territorial markings are oft referred to by scientists as ‘econoblogs’, but it appears he’s already onto you…

Kieran,
The beer is better than decent at the Wig and Pen. Me, I used to drink at the Pheonix.
Canberra is a nice town, except it’s too hot in summer, too cold in winter, and burns down every sixty years – really, what more do you want in a national capital ?

Kieran, you damn well that RSSS contains multitudes – its got everything from historians to sociologists, archeologists to economists and also (yes) ontologists.
I suspect its just a structure to reduce people’s teaching loads.
And the bush capital is in the middle of a drought yet again – please bring the Irish weather with you.

Grrr – “I meant “you know damned well …” in that opening sentence. When will CT get a preview facility?

ontology tends to recapitulate philology . . .

Derrida derider,
The RSSS is not a structure to reduce teaching loads; it removes them altogether.
Not that there is anything wrong with that.

Roger that.

I (like Brian) am going through Sydney in a couple weeks, though I do plan on getting to Brisbane at some point.
