Postgraduate Conference on Dr Who and All its Spin-offs in Cardiff

Since Daniel is refusing to comment on the current world-historical situation, I refer readers to his comments about the social construction of disability at the Virtual Stoa. Oh, and I’ve had a lot of fun watching the Dalek Work Out video with my kids, which he might like to check out.

By what route does one go to find a “Dalek Workout Video” on YouTube?

Davies and Brooke would make a scarily good comedy duo.

Matt w, if you’re a flabby Dalek, the idea comes naturally.

If you had a toddler who is obsessed with Daleks, thinks they are the freindliest creatures in the world, and stops moving and talking ONLY to watch daleks and to sleep, you’d spend enough time looking for daleks that you’d end up with the workout video. But, thanks to me, yiou can just watch it without searching!

Harry, you have now moved the question from “How did you find a Dalek workout video?” to “How did your toddler came to think that Dalek are the friendliest creatures?”

Both questions are easily answered if you happen to be a Dalek.

He is also obsessed with various household appliances, in particular food mixers, fans, and vacuum cleaners. I think he thinks Daleks (we have a number at home, one of which speaks) are sort of animated, or at least speaking, household appliances, which isn’t really that far from the truth. Household appliance = friendly, I think. (He just turned 2). My other children are pretty bright and emotionally well intergrated, fortunately.

I can just about remember a very good children’s book called The Penguin and the Vacuum Cleaner, though I’ve no idea if it’s still in print. I think the penguin was called Josh.

My 10-year old loved the Dalek workout — thanks!

I see. Yeah, my family had a couple of Daleks when I was growing up too. I thought they were incredibly friendly until I was about 6…when they exterminated half the neighborhood. If that rather odd guy with the giant scarf and Richard Dawkins’s wife hadn’t shown up, who knows what would’ve happened.
